1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup (1 stick) Real Butter
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 Cup Buttermilk
1/2 tsp Soda
Combine sugar, buttermilk, and butter in a *Large Sauce Pan. Bring to a boil until the sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly. Turn down heat and add Soda and Vanilla. Keep on low heat until ready to serve. Store left overs in fridge.
*Use a Large Sauce Pan because when you put the soda in it bubbles and grows.
I also read on allrecipes.com that someone omitted the Soda and added 1 Tbsp Corn Syrup. They cooked it for a little longer and cooled it sitting off the stove for a little bit to thicken. They say it's a pretty white color instead of caramel colored and is even yummier tasting. Thought I'd try it soon!
